Parish Social Activities

Members of St. Albert's community enjoy sharing time together at social occasions. The parish offers many such opportunities. Be sure to check Upcoming Events for those scheduled in the near future. Here are descriptions of some regularly recurring social gatherings for our community.

Fall Festival & Roast Beef Dinner: This large event occurs once each fall (usually in October). It features a delicious meal of roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, coleslaw, pickles, beets, desserts and beverages. (Vegetarian lasagna is also available.) Festivities also include bingo; raffles; booths selling sweets, plants, jewelry, knickknacks, books and a wide variety of other items; a cake walk; and games for children.

Fish Dinners: On the six Fridays of Lent, these popular dinners offer great opportunities to unwind at the end of the work week and feast on fried or baked fish, potatoes mashed with cheese and spices or in hashed-brown wedges, coleslaw, spaghetti with red sauce, desserts and beverages. Some of these Friday events also include bingo, raffles and booths. All of them always include plentiful conversation.

Parish Breakfasts: Three or four times a year, we offer a Parish Breakfast after the Sunday 9:30 am Mass, where everyone is welcome to come and share a sit-down breakfast prepared by the Rosary Altar Society members or another parish group.  A delightful opportunity for getting to know new and long-time parishioners!

Pancake Breakfasts: Periodically throughout the year, groups such as the Boy Scouts or Minnesota Transitions School offer pancake breakfasts in the Social Hall on Sundays. These events raise funds for the groups and let community members feast on tasty breakfasts and share good times.

Sunday Gathering: Year-round, following services on most Sundays that don't feature a parish or pancake breakfast, community members gather to share rolls, breads, fruit, juice and coffee. In fall, winter and spring, these gatherings usually occur in the Social Hall and precede religious education sessions. In the summer, they occur in the gathering space behind the pews in St. Albert's worship space.

Singles Group: This group meets on the second Sunday of each month in the Social Hall at 5 pm for a potluck dinner. They also gather for special events like dinners, movies, outings or holiday parties.

GLBT Social Club: The parish's gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgendered members and their partners get together once a month for game nights, coffee shop chats and a variety of other activities as ideas are suggested. For contact information, call the Parish Office.

Golf Tournament: This annual event each September is a fun get-together (and fundraiser) for golfers of all experience levels (from zero to extensive) to enjoy some fresh air, each other's company and then a delicious dinner. The tournament uses four-person teams in a "best ball scramble" format.

Women's Group: This group offers a weekend retreat each fall and a Saturday retreat each spring. Each event is a unique and wonderful experience in which participants share faith stories and women's wisdom.

Rummage Sale: This Spring event lets people get together to extend the useful life of donated items that become affordable for others who need them, to raise funds for parish activities and to purchase something they've been wanting. This year the sale begins the evening of Thursday, June 5 with a $2 entry Preview Sale from 5 to 7 pm.  On Friday and Saturday, the hours are from 9 am to 8 pm, with a bag sale during the last hour on Saturday and on Sunday morning from 9 to 11.  After that, parishioners are invited to help pack up what's left and get it ready to deliver to charitable organizations.
