Parish
History
Our parish was born on Feb. 10, 1935. Our "mother" was Holy Rosary parish
(whose church building still is located on East 24th Street near Cedar
Avenue). "Her" eastern portion became our parish. From April 7 to
October 27
of 1935, we worshiped at the chapel of McDivitt Funeral Home, in the building
that still stands on the southwest corner of Lake Street and 29th
Avenue South. |

Worshipers gathered
outside McDivitt Funeral Home following their
first Mass as St. Albert the Great parish, on
April 7, 1935.
|
| On
Oct. 27, 1935, we began worshiping in the
existing school building. (In 1993, the school closed; we now rent the building to Minnesota Transitions
charter school.) In 1947, we began building the existing church building,
which the archbishop dedicated in 1948. We renovated it and reconfigured
the worship space in the 1990s.
